About the Product: Solifenacin is used for treating symptoms of overactive bladder, like frequent or urgent urination, and incontinence (urine leakage).
Mechanism of Action: Solifenacin comes under class of medication called antimuscarinics and works by relaxing the bladder muscles. Solifenacin is indicated for overactive bladder, a condition in which bladder muscles contacts uncontrollably and forces the person for frequent urination. Solifenacin is competitive cholinergic antagonist, selective for M3 receptor subtype. The binding of acetylcholine to these receptors, particularly M3, plays a critical role in the contraction of smooth muscles. By preventing the binding of acetylcholine to these receptors, Solifenacin reduces smooth muscle tone in the bladder, allowing the bladder to retain larger volumes of urine and reducing the number of micturition, urgency and incontinence episodes. Because of a long elimination half-life, a once-a-day dose can offer 24-hour control of the urinary bladder smooth muscle tone. It happens because of neurogenic detrusor over activity, a condition caused by brain, spinal cord and nerve problem.
